Whether you are learning how to hypnotize someone else or hypnotize yourself, many people want to know exactly what to expect. What does a hypnotic trance feel like? Was I really hypnotized? Did it work?

Every trance is different and every person experiences trance differently. All I can do is make generalizations. Please keep in mind, all generalizations are lies, including that one. Nothing is 100% stereotypical. That being said, here is the general idea.

Hypnotic trance is nothing more than the mind being focused on one thought at a time. Now when you are under hypnosis, you will be able to hear birds singing out the window. You may or may not notice them. The fact that you do hear the birds does not mean you are not hypnotized.

Your mind is very capable of doing many things at one time. You can eat dinner and have a meaningful conversation at the same time. Your mind is not only talking, processing the words, and listening to the meaning of what the other person has said. Your mind is telling your mouth to chew, your salivary glands to excrete saliva. It tells your throat how to swallow the food without choking. It tells you not to talk with your mouth full. It has you take an occasional drink to wash the food down. It tells you to continue to breathe through the entire affair.

Just because you do or do not actually enjoy the taste of the green beans during dinner does not distract from the conversation. The effects of hypnosis are similar. You most likely will remember every thing that was said. Hypnosis is still a conversation. You will remember every thing that was said. You will not feel like you were under some kind of anesthetic.

You may not be able to move your arm, most likely because you will not have a reason to. If you are in a relaxed state your feet probably won’t tap. But even if they do, it shouldn’t reflect on whether or not the hypnosis was effective.

Most of the doubt comes from what we perceive. As we learn how to hypnotize someone we think it will be like on TV or in a movie. Arms straight out or slouched over in a chair. Even after we learn better, the people whom we hypnotize have similar beliefs. This is what they expect and we (as hypnotists) have to educate them.

In a nutshell here is what you will tell them when you have learned how to hypnotize someone.

You will be in complete control. You will not lose consciousness. You will remember everything I said. I will be communicating with you on several levels. I will be talking to your conscious mind keeping it occupied while your subconscious will absorb the deeper meaning in what I say, and will make the changes needed on a subconscious level. Your subconscious may or may not let you in on what it has understood and what changes it has seen fit to make. This creates the lasting change we are looking for. Your conscious mind may believe nothing has happened and nothing has changed. The opinion of your conscious mind will have very little effect on what the subconscious does. This is how hypnosis works.

Again, once you have learned how to hypnotize someone, this just might make a little more sense. But in the meantime, try it on, see how it fits, decide for yourself.

Today it is time to blow the lid off of black ops hypnosis. Black ops hypnosis, also called underground hypnosis, is a combination of linguistic patterns, NLP, “hypnosis”, and manipulation. This is not real hypnosis.

As a professional hypnotist, I don’t much care for this kind of product. Take a minute and go to the Black Ops Hypnosis website by clicking on the link… Go ahead, it will open in a new window, I’ll wait.

Welcome back. If you read the entire sales letter, you will find it to be pretty compelling copy writing. It is however just an ad, nothing more. The site makes some pretty amazing claims. Most of which it actually does deliver on, but not how you think.

The primary focus of black ops hypnosis is playing manipulative games with people. Yes these work extremely well. However, they only work short term. Do you know someone who seems very charismatic when you first meet them, but then later you learn not to turn your back on them? Those are just some of the secrets you’ll learn. How to be “that guy.”

Hypnosis is an incredible medium for change. You can use it on yourself, or to help others. Hypnosis has had trouble gaining acceptance in the past due to the charlatanism that black ops hypnosis portrays. I would rather someone spend a little more and get a true complete education on how to be a hypnotist from the ground up.

Is conversational hypnosis possible? Yes! ALL HYPNOSIS HAPPENS THROUGH CONVERSATION!!! Sorry to scream, but that is the tool of a hypnotist, language and conversation. It is just words put into very specific order with a distinct underlying purpose. Will you get people to do anything you want? NO!

Let me try, you’re getting very sleepy, now take out your credit card and send me money. Did you do it? Of course not. If however, I provide something of value, teach you how to do something new or stop something old, then you gladly would pay me. That is what hypnosis does.

Can you make tons of money using influence to peddle empty promises? Apparently so, for a while. The site says you can hypnotize people without them knowing. Is this possible? You bet! Many people spend so much time in trance they are not ever aware of reality. By learning hypnosis, you learn to recognize trance and to sometimes embrace it, and other times avoid it.

For example, how many of us were told by a fifth grade music teacher that we had no musical ability? Did you accept that trance, and never even try to play an instrument again? If not, good for you. However many people let someone tell them at one point in their life that they couldn’t do something and believed them. Maybe what they should have said is that they had no idea how to teach you how to play an instrument. Big difference.

I make my living as a hypnotist. I have read and reviewed black ops hypnosis (Underground Hypnosis). It is a good but VERY limited course. I truly believe it is better to spend a little more and get what you want, than pay a little less and make a mistake. Here’s what I am trying to say, I don’t recommend it. Your money and TIME would be much better spent on “The Power Of Conversational Hypnosis.” Or you could buy black ops hypnosis. It is half price and you can get a refund with no questions asked for 60 days. I’ll even provide another link. Black Ops Hypnosis.

You can hardly learn how to hypnotize someone, without talking about stories. Stories are an extremely effective way to directly communicate with the subconscious mind. Here again, there is nothing new, stories have been used from time immortal to communicate. You have used them as well, but not recognizing their value on how to hypnotize someone.

Let’s begin with a familiar example. If you have a child that is always yelling, saying help, or constantly overreacting, you might tell them the following story.

Once upon a time there was a little boy who lived in the forest. He thought it would be a great way to get attention to yell “Wolf” several times a day. Every time he did this, people would come running to his rescue, only to find him in no danger, with no wolf in sight. After being scolded, he would only continue to cry wolf again and again. After a while, people would stop coming, because they knew he wasn’t in any danger.

Then one day as he was walking in the woods a huge wolf came upon him and threatened to eat him. He started screaming wolf at the top of his lungs. No one came. He screamed louder. No one came. Finally after no one came to save him, the wolf ate him.

Here is what happens inside your brain when you tell this story. Your conscious mind simply listens and is entertained. Your subconscious mind, in order to make sense of the story, starts searching for a way to adapt it to fit your circumstances. It has to make sense of it. Your subconscious will not let go of the story until it draws parallels with your own life.

While only changing small things, such as names and places, will get the point across, it is far more effective if the subconscious draws deeper meaning. In the example above, the child will make a very good lasting parallel to the story and will change their behavior. If you told the following story, you would get an effect, but not as deep and lasting.

There was a boy named Mac (assume the child’s real name is Mike), he would always pretend that someone was hurting him. After a while, no one listened to him when he was getting hurt. Wouldn’t that be awful?

The first story is much better. There are many parallels for the subconscious to draw. Many are not completely transparent, but some are. These stories keep getting tossed around inside the subconscious until it feels it has exhausted all possibilities of meaning.

Stories have been used since before writing. They were used to tell history as well as to help teach important morals. Jesus used parables (which are stories) almost exclusively to teach his disciples. He understood how powerful they were to get his point across, and have it maintain a lasting effect.

Ok, stories are cool and all, but what do they have to do with learning how to hypnotize someone?

Keep in mind, hypnosis is simply communicating directly with the subconscious mind to bring about a desired thought or action. Watch someone being told a story. Even better, watch a child being told a story. Their eyes are wide, they are completely attentive, in a word, they are in a trance. There is something for the conscious mind to be occupied with, while the real meaning of your story gets directly into the subconscious.

It is even better than the subconscious simply hearing your story. It makes the connections itself. This is far more powerful than you telling it what to think. You can tell someone the red stove means hot. Once they figure it out for themselves, they will never forget. A story allows the subconscious to learn on it’s own.

Just telling a story will help you on your journey to learn how to hypnotize someone. Telling a story while someone is already in a deep trance is 20 times more powerful.

If you want to learn how to hypnotize people, you must take responsibility for what you communicate. The end goal of hypnosis is to communicate directly to the subconscious mind in such a way that it takes a precise desired action.

As the hypnotist, your job is to communicate with the unconscious mind.  In order to effectively communicate you need to understand what communication is and who is responsible.

Often what we say is misunderstood by the way we communicate. As a professional communicator your meaning in a communication is exactly what the other person understands it to be.

Restated, what the other person understands the communication to mean is what it means.  Perception is reality. Consider the following statements;

I didn’t say I kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog.

Notice the highlighted word in each of the sentences. If you put the emphasis on the highlighted word it gives that sentence an entirely different meaning. It draws an entirely different picture in your mind.

I didn’t say I kicked his dog. ~We understand to mean, someone else said I kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog. ~Just because I didn’t say it, doesn’t mean I didn’t write it.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog. ~We understand to mean someone else kicked his dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog. ~Threw rocks at it maybe…
I didn’t say I kicked his dog. ~We interpret to mean I kicked someone elses dog.
I didn’t say I kicked his dog. ~His cat on the other hand…

(Side note- No animals were harmed in the writing of this article. I love dogs and cats, however I purposefully wanted the emotional involvement.)

When I say “chair” a picture pops into your mind of a chair. If I say “white chair”, possibly a different picture pops into your mind. If I say “white plastic chair that sits on your front porch” you have a completely different picture. The point is this, if I want you to have a specific picture in your mind, it is up to me to give it to you.

Hypnosis is no different. If as a hypnotist I want you to have a specific picture in your mind it is up to me, the hypnotist, to paint that picture for you.

This is why the preceding lessons were so important. By using the powers of observation we are starting to develop, we can calibrate whether or not our subject is painting the picture we want them to paint.

You will be able to recognize the signs of trance. You will know when your subject is coming out of trance and when they are going deeper.  By observing and guiding them, we can get them into a deeper trance making the hypnosis session more productive.

Today we learned that we are ultimately responsible for any communication we make. It is our responsibility that what was understood, was what we meant. Think how much better the entire world be if everybody excepted this level of responsibility for what they say and do.

For today’s exercise I want you to talk to someone. I want you tell them a story, any story. I want you to picture the scene in your mind and describe it in vivid detail. Leave nothing out.

For example, don’t say “I watched TV.” Say “I sat in my chair with my feet propped up watching the most amazing program on the History Channel last night.  I learned such an unbelievable amount about the Civil War. I had no idea it could be that interesting. I was so enthralled with the show, I didn’t even notice the commercials that were on.

Remember, what your subject perceives is reality.

Learning how to hypnotize people is a journey, not a destination. We will make it to the city of hypnosis, only to realize it is but a border town to an entire different country.
